Full product details & care
The Glacial Gear × Zpacks Camp Towel is a merino-blend towel for camp, backpacking and travel. It comes in three sizes, from a 22 × 13 in Small for your pack strap to a 47 × 33 in Large for a full dry-off. A small loop at each corner lets you hang it, clip it or stake it down.
The fabric
Made with 96% merino wool and 4% Spandex, using the same fabric as the Zpacks Mirage Merino Sun Hoody. The wool fibers measure 16.7 microns, and the fabric weighs 135 GSM (3.98 oz/yd²). Fabric weight describes the material per unit of area, not the finished towel weight.
The blend combines merino’s breathability, moisture management, and natural antimicrobial and odor-resistant properties with stretch.

Ways to use it
- Dry off after a creek swim, a camp shower or a sauna.
- No need to wash it after every use: the merino naturally resists odor.
Four corner loops
Each corner has a small loop that fits a mini carabiner or a tent stake.
- Clip it to a shoulder strap or hip belt to dry as you hike.
- Hang it from a tent gear loop, a branch or a hostel hook.
- Clip it to a clothesline so it stays put in the wind.
- Stake it down as a mat in your vestibule or at a lunch stop.
Care
The fabric is pre-shrunk, so you can machine wash and dry your towel with your regular laundry. Some pilling can occur with wear and washing.
Questions
Is this the same towel Zpacks sells?
Yes, it’s the same towel: a Glacial Gear × Zpacks collaboration. Order it here and it ships from South Carolina, with free U.S. shipping on orders of $49.99 and up and free 30-day returns on unused towels. Buying here also supports Glacial Gear, a small merino gear company in South Carolina.
Which size should I get?
Small (22 × 13 in, 1.2 oz): a sweat towel on your pack strap, or for face and hands. Medium (30 × 22 in, 2.5 oz): a pillowcase or a vestibule mat. Large (47 × 33 in, 5.7 oz): a full dry-off or a changing wrap.
Trail Rag or Camp Towel?
The Trail Rag is a compact 10 × 10 in merino towel for sweat, face and hands, and small cleanup jobs. The Camp Towel is for drying off after a swim, a camp shower or a sauna. Keep a Trail Rag on your shoulder strap and a Camp Towel in your pack.
Does it smell after a few days on the trail?
It’s 96% merino, which is naturally antimicrobial and odor-resistant, so you don’t need to wash it after every use. Let it air-dry between uses: clip a corner loop to your pack or hang it in camp.
SHEEPishly Superior.

A night off trail
Some nights, the trail can wait.
Days into a hike, the trail passes an old friend’s place, and the sauna’s already hot. The Small comes in with you. The bigger one waits on a hook by the door.
The merino in it naturally resists odor, which matters when the laundry is days away. Its four corner loops hang on a hook, a branch or a pack strap, so it can dry before you head back out.
